We conclude Season 2 of the #IndustrialAgeDetox series by taking a look at the ultimate ruse devised by economists to gain perceived professional legitimacy. In 1968 economists choose to appropriate the esteemed Nobel Prize and Nobel family name to falsely gain credibility. The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, is not a Nobel Prize. The prize is similarly named but was created with political motivation and in celebration of the Sweden central bank's 300th anniversary. Awarded at the same time of year and judged by a committee of Swedish academics most people have no idea of the conflict surrounding it.

 

Season 2 of #IndustrialAgeDetox continues wiping away the residue of 'some defunct economist' by examining dated economic beliefs that must be upgraded to meet the demands of contemporary society.
