Fun Film Facts from Jane Ubell-Meyer

"My first project as a producer (Co-Executive Producer Credit) was for the CBS-TV movie, Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean.

Suzanne Pleshette earned an Emmy nomination for that role in 1990, and it became the second highest ranked TV movie for CBS for the year."

Unknown Fact: Joan Collins was our original choice to play Leona Helmsley

And the Golden Starfish Goes to...
Lisa Rosenstein!

Lisa and her BFF Cate produced Edge City with director Eugene Martin.
The feature film went up against the likes of Sofia Coppola at the 1998 Hamptons Film Festival. Given the stiff competition, Lisa and her production team left the festival early, expecting a loss.

On the way home, Lisa got a sign from an unlikely place -- a gas station receipt -- that they had to return to the festival for the awards ceremony.
Lisa's hunch was right, and the film won the Golden Starfish Award!

Unknown Fact: Lisa's first job as a film intern was on Reversal of Fortune in 1988. Her responsibilities included spraying Glenn Close's legs with bug spray and shopping for greek yogurt for Jeremy Irons! (Back then, you actually had to go to the Greek store on Ninth Avenue to find it!)

Unknown Tidbit: Lisa was production manager on a short film called The Pesky Suitor. The director, Karen Young asked her to list and sort headshots for the young teen girl lead. They cast an unknown Claire Danes. At a crew dinner one night, Danes' mom (who was on set because Danes was a minor at the time) got the call that Danes had been cast in My So Called Life

Our Longest Summer EVER
Thank You Hamptons Hotel Partners, Authors & Readers!

We all know how challenging this summer has been, but if there's one thing that has stayed constant, it's our Hamptons bags!

Our program (which usually ends on Labor Day) ends for the season this weekend.

"Our return guests now ask if we still have Bedside Reading books, and new guests are thrilled to receive the book amenity. So many of our guests love to read.

This past weekend we had a (new) guest tell us that she discovered Bedside Reading at another property she stayed at and was so happy we were also part of the Bedside Reading program!"

White Fences Inn

"While this has been a year of disruption and anxiety with events and performances and dining and international tourism on hold, guests at the Southampton Inn were able to pivot to a new reality with books and beach, bikes and boats, picnics and walks.

Discovering surprises of first run books in sterilized bags available for summer reading pleasure from Bedside Reading was a perfect addition to the Hamptons experience this summer. Thank you Jane and authors!
