A Simple Cup of -Ty is a thought-provoking, beautifully photographed book that began as a family tribute to a beloved family member. Trisha was a cousin of the author (Elda), but was lovingly thought of as an older sister. She attended many family reunions and enjoyed the jokes and puns that were always a part of the conversations. Her wisdom guided and helped all who knew her.
When she died, Elda wanted to do something that would help honor her. Trisha was a writer and always encouraged the family to write. So, it seemed appropriate that Elda would write a book for Trisha, who was also a lover of tea, and incorporate some humor as well as wisdom.
Each reflection includes at least one quote that helps in the exploration of the meaning of each “ty” word. At the end of the examination of the word, there is a page to write personal thoughts. Some of the words are lighthearted, such as the study about “jocularity,” and others inspire self-examination, like “paucity.”
Along with the word study, there is a photograph of a teapot or teacup that enhances the word study. These photographs were taken by Andy. He takes mainly scenic pictures of the oceans and mountains, so this was a departure for him. The photographs include some beautiful handcrafted teapots and cups from around the world.
The book concludes with this thought: “I hope you have been encouraged and challenged as you read through this book. And I hope you enjoyed the pictures. Our prayer and hope is that you make your life one that is worthy of the person you are.“
