Write fiction because you have a passion for it, because you love it. Do not do it to make a living, at least not in the short run. I'll tell you my journey and experiences and anecdotes I've heard from others about the process of selling your novel once you've written it.

Ned Lips, self-published author of five well-received novels, and a bit of a life philosopher. His Theories, Thoughts, and Things can be found on his YouTube Channel, Ned Lips – Author. Ned writes in the genre, Magical Realism, and, interestingly, prefers female heroines. His works include the four-book Reset series, which includes the prequel, First Steps, Reset, Entwined and the finale, Parasite. The series, which has been very well received to date, contemplates what would happen if everything man-made were to be removed from the face of the earth, a horrible circumstance for most of us. One twist is that Sarah, the hero, and her two daughters are wilderness survivalists who have recently escaped her brutal husband, the First Steps story, into a world that is ideally suited for their skills. As one of his readers put it, Sarah “emerges from fear to utter fearlessness” and rises from “hell to hero.”

Ned’s written two other stand-alone novels, each very different from Reset. Freed was inspired by two articles. In one a widower withers away and dies after his wife dies. In the other, after a career prostitute was found dead a search of her apartment turned up dozens of complex treatises and her own independent work that startled the police. I thought, would the wife want her husband to leave their children, their family like this? And, what if that woman had been discovered before it was too late? Freed is a multi-dimensional love story orchestrated by a man’s deceased wife, freeing both her husband and the career hooker from their demons.

His latest, Lauretta, was inspired by a young woman with developmental disabilities in our ordinary world. What if she was amazingly powerful in another realm, the only person able to defeat the evil preacher and save hundreds of souls. All of his books have strong spiritual, though not religious, aspects to them.
