The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has shattered the healthcare infrastructure in India. Daily, the cases are rising by 400,000, which is higher than any other country has seen during the pandemic. Official reports state that around 250,000 people have died since the start of the pandemic, however The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) estimates the true toll is more than 750,000, a number researchers predict will double by the end of August.
Many are not able to receive the medical care that they deserve as this crisis has stretched the country's healthcare system to its limit. There is not enough space in hospitals to help everyone in need, and life-saving supplies, such as oxygen and ventilators, are in short supply. Thousands of people are at risk of being left to die without help.
There is a dire need for resources to respond to the devastating scale of this outbreak in India and here is how you can help.
