Author M.K. Lever Featured on panel “Achieving Gender Equity” at the VIRTUAL SUMMIT ON THE GROSS INEQUITIES IN COLLEGE SPORTS

WASHINGTON—M.K. Lever, doctoral candidate, sportswriter and author of Surviving the Second Tier, will be a featured panelist on a virtual summit to discuss the 'Gross Inequities in College Sports."  Lever's book, a novel centered on college athletes in a bleak dystopian future, fits in perfectly with topics covered in the summit.

"I wrote this book to educate readers about the reality of the college sports industry, as someone who has been there before," shares Lever. "Sometimes, facts and statistics don't stick with people and since we are intrinsically wired to follow narratives, I wanted to tell people a story in hopes that the message would resonate in a unique and powerful way. I wanted to give college sports the 1984 treatment and create a narrative that would be impactful and a little unsettling."

U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), and U.S. Representative Lori Trahan (D-Mass.) on Wednesday starting at 12:15pmET will host Madness, Inc., a live virtual summit featuring three panels with current and former college athletes and advocates to discuss the gross inequities in college sports and how we fix them.

Murphy along with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and U.S. Representatives Lori Trahan (D-Mass.) and Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) introduced The College Athlete Right to Organize Act, legislation to provide collective bargaining rights for college athletes. Murphy and Trahan also wrote the College Athlete Economic Freedom Act, which grants unrestricted rights to college athletes over the use of their name, image, and likeness. Blumenthal and Booker authored the College Athletes Bill of Rights to guarantee fair and equitable compensation, enforceable health and safety standards, and improved educational opportunities for all college athletes.

Gambling on the NCAA basketball games

How many athletes playing in the games will place a bet on the NCAA  games
Maybe even some that are playing in the games.!

How many college students are going to bet on these games ?

And how many who will place the 1st bet they ever make on one of the

Arnie Wexler said " TODAY   It is easier to gamble on the games
than it is to buy cigarettes or a can of beer on college
campuses all over the country"

Now with all the pro leagues  are MAKING $ FROM THE GAMBLING

Gambling addiction has exploded I have been getting calls and e mail from young people and  mothers and fathers of young people looking for help

You dont even have to leave your home or dorm room TO GO GAMBLE TODAY

Over the years i have spoken to many athletes who had a
gambling addiction.

Get the real scoop: Talk to Arnie Wexler who is one of the nation's
leading experts on the subject of compulsive gambling and a recovering
compulsive gambler himself, who placed his last bet on April 10, 1968.
He has been involved in helping compulsive gamblers for the last 54
years. Through the years, Wexler has spoken to more compulsive
gamblers than anyone else in America over the years.

Arnie has spoken to students who gamble in college, day and night.
They even gamble during class, and it goes on in high school even in
the lunch rooms. According to a Harvard study  a few  years ago, 4.67
percent of young people have a gambling problem.  Today its even higher     Experts tell us that
the earlier a person starts to gamble, the greater the risk of them
becoming a compulsive gambler. In another survey, 96 percent of
adult male recovering gamblers stated that they started gambling
before the age of 14 .

When you open your local newspaper to the sports pages all over the
country you do see lines and point spreads on sporting events.
And betting info on t v and radio all day and night

I think the responsible thing to do would be for newspapers to carry a

public service message

The N C A A should have enough clout to stop something like this on

"The NCAA and the media are part of the problem," Wexler said. "
...A couple years back the NCAA said it wouldn't credential any
newspaper that carries the lines and odds. In two or three weeks
that story went away very quickly because the NCAA knew they
wouldn't get the hype" for its NCAA basketball tournament
if it started banning media from coverage.

The National Gambling Study Commission said that there
are "5 million compulsive gamblers and 15 million at risk in the U.S"
Forty eight percent of the people who gamble bet on sports.
AND THAT WAS IN 1998   ITS A LOT BIGGER 2 DAY

(ABC Sports Beat). The topic was: Does the media encourage the
public to gamble? Bobby Knight, Indiana University basketball coach
at the time, said: "A newspaper which published point spreads should
also publish names and addresses of services that render to prostitutes.

They practically have the same legality in every one of our states, and
I can't see why one is any better than the other" On the same show,
former baseball commissioner
Bowie Kuhn said: "Anything that encourages gambling on team sports
bothers me. We all look hypocritical. But then why are we putting
up the odds unless we are trying to encourage it?"

David Stern, NBA commissioner said: "We don't want the week's
grocery money to be bet on the outcome of a particular sporting event"

The Audience Speaks! What attendees say about

Alan Goldberger's Presentations

Thanks again for all of your hard work and efforts... your information is incredibly valuable to the attendees. Time and time again, your sessions rate out as the highest on the block. We're so appreciative.

My whole goal in attending the convention was to bring something back to my board, and the session with Al Goldberger, a prestigious attorney from New Jersey and author and national authority on sports law and officiating, made it well worth the trip.

Our folks were so impressed with your information, but mostly about your delivery!!! It was terrific to have you on hand at our Board meeting - a big plus and so needed.

Great talk last night, Alan! You're a gifted and engaging presenter!

On behalf of the more than 200 officials and staff members at the Camp, I wish to extend our sincere appreciation for your presentations. Our officials were extremely enthusiastic about the information, your candor, and your wit. Today's world forces each and every one of us to focus on safety, respect, diligence, awareness, and prevention. You certainly brought this to the forefront. It is my hope that we can make this an annual event... Thanks for an outstanding and effective presentation.

You were such a hit, so personable, and always patient with the questions and comments. I heard so MANY positive comments from attendees. Thanks so much!!

Thank you for your great session. I had many comments appreciating your humor and easy conversational style when presenting such an important topic. Thanks again.

Superb!! Extremely knowledgeable... Nice job helping us understand when we might be liable for the participants... This was by far one of the best sessions. Really addressed real issues.

Well prepared, well executed presentation and responses... A lot of really good ideas about things we don't usually want to think about... this session is the most important here... This is needed for everyone.

Your presentation was excellent and generated a lot of comment. We have already been asked if you will be back next year to delve further into areas of officiating where your unique expertise and experience can be of great import to our officials.

The board chairs were educated and engaged by Al Goldberger, an attorney who specializes in sports and association law. Goldberger's presentation…included a number of new aspects of board administration and suggestions for managing a local association's legal exposures.

Alan Goldberger was great. I really enjoyed the session... Alan Goldberger is always one of my favorites... He is informative without using so much legal jargon that you get lost in! I appreciate his humor in his delivery of information.

As usual, Al's unique style provides competent advice surrounded by his dry humor. Well organized, topical, educational... was informative to all levels... an outstanding session!

Thank you for providing my teaching staff with a workshop focusing on risk management and liability. It was very well received and all of the teachers had positive comments on your presentation and knowledge of the subject matter. Most importantly, you made it relevant to their duties as teachers and coaches... The teachers also appreciated your input on several of the concerns presented during the workshop. The materials and topics were in direct line with my goals for the day.

Really fascinated by liability issues, was so glad I could pick his brain at dinner! He's really a funny guy!!

We had our post-conference review meeting yesterday and you were mentioned with great gratitude from not only us, but many of the people who attended the conference.

IAABO international meeting in Maryland - Liability meeting given by Al Goldberger (IAABO Attorney) was very impressive.

Thank you for your great session. I had many comments appreciating your humor and easy conversational style when presenting such an important topic. Thanks again.

In the lineup of presenters this year, Al Goldberger, an attorney who specializes in sports law, provided our members with sound legal advice that will hopefully keep our liability to a minimum.

Alan Goldberger making some really interesting points about potential liability of adults when student-athlete experiences concussion/TBI.

If we have any questions or concerns regarding safety procedures, legal issues or the laws pertaining to this avocation... there is only one person, with whom we should consult: Alan Goldberger!! He is THE BEST "on the planet," which is why he is in such high-demand to speak throughout the world at sports officials' events.

When you hear Alan speak, you'll think twice about allowing kids to warm-up with earrings covered with tape, your verbalizing what "you think should be done" to the injured player, etc. He has a way of "scaring us" into using the correct procedures and officiating the game by the rules of the game.

Thank you for the great job you do and all the hard work you put into making the legal session such a sought after topic.

You are the man! LOVE your presentations! By all accounts, I have heard great feedback on your presentation --- both on the actual information covered and also on your delivery of it.

You were the BEST presenter there! REALLY! I loved your comic timing! Thanks.
