Shhh, I cheated on my diet

tips from Scale the Limit

Are you like me? I always used to start a new diet on Monday, and by the weekend, I would find myself sneaking in food that wasn’t on my weight-loss plan, like doughnuts, ice cream, or fries as a reward for being “good” all week.

I would pass it off as my “cheat day,” totally legal. Right??

Then, as I HATED the results on the scale, I would also hate myself.

This was a normal part of the toxic dieting cycle for me until I started taking responsibility for my choices.

Now, when I hear things like: “I cheated on my diet” or “today is a cheat day,” it drives me CRAZY!

There is NO CHEATING when it comes to food. Just CHOICES!

Diet culture allows us to shirk responsibility for our food choices and, in doing so, promotes GUILT and SHAME as a way to punish ourselves.

This happens because at the root of it all:

You didn’t cheat on your diet. You cheated on yourself.

AND YOU KNOW IT because it’s awfully hard to sneak around on yourself.

Somehow, we have been taught that being sneaky and beating ourselves up is effective.

Seriously, it’s NOT!

Do you know that Toxic Diet Culture carries an underbelly of emotional aspects just like this that can run deep and affect many areas of your life?

I call these the TOXIC TEN:

1. Guilt
2. Shame
3. Perfectionism
4. Bad food/Good food mentality
5. Hate of body flaws like cellulite, stretch marks, rolls, dimples, and more
6. Beating yourself up
7. Negative self-image
8. Negative self-talk
9. Comparing your body to others
10. Quest for "the perfect body"

Our members have proven over and over again that these 10 have no place in weight loss, maintenance, or life.

They are NOT needed for SUCCESS.

I believe that Success comes in ALL Sizes.

Your goals are unique to you, whether it's about getting ahead of a disease like diabetes, feeling amazing when you fit into your clothes again, being able to get up and down stairs easily, or maybe it's the number you want to see on the scale because that's where you feel your best.

Whatever your personal goal, we use a positive and healthy approach to losing weight through self-care that DOES NOT include ANY of the negative emotional aspects of toxic diet culture.

Are you ready to leave that toxic culture behind?
