Your health is your most valuable asset, and we believe that weight is just one aspect to consider because many others contribute to being healthy as well.
When you are feeling good inside and out, you can share more of your energy, skills, and love with your family, friends, and community, which brings more joy.
That’s more joy for You and everyone around you.
Answer these three questions to check in with yourself and assess your health:
Are you satisfied with your energy level throughout the day?
Are you comfortable with your body as you move throughout the day?
Is your mind at ease throughout the day?
If you answered NO to any of these questions, then here are 3 things to start investigating immediately to increase energy, move a bit better, and release some of what’s weighing on your mind:
1. Sleep
How many hours of sleep are you getting?
How many hours of sleep do you need to feel your best?
Is it 5-6 or 7-8 or 9-10?
We have all heard that we need 8 hours of sleep as the gold standard. I love these guidelines because it gives us a sense of the average amount needed, so we have a target.
However, Your body operates a little differently than everyone else's because we are all unique.
Remember that guidelines and averages are just a starting place.
Don’t be afraid to experiment to find out what your body needs so that you know the minimum and maximum.
Just a little more sleep, like 30 minutes, can significantly affect your energy level and how your body feels.
2. Water
How much water do you drink daily?
We have all heard 8 glasses a day as the guideline, but do you know how much you really need?
90oz or 100oz or 128oz??
Start experimenting with the amount you need. If you are significantly increasing your intake, it can take up to 2 weeks for your body to settle in so that you are not constantly in the bathroom.
Water helps our body function with more ease. Our members are always surprised about how this one change makes a big difference. They can move better with less naggy pain in their knees, ankles, and other joints.
3. Play
How often do you let yourself do something completely fun with no other purpose other than to smile and feel joy?
If you are like most adults, play ended a long time ago when we were still kids.
Unfortunately, playing with no other outcome in mind is not easily accepted in our culture because it’s seen as not responsible, childish, and a colossal waste of time.
The health benefits of playing are huge and one of the most generous gifts you can give yourself for good mental health.
Play is not meant to be productive, so get out there and jump in puddles, fingerpaint, play an instrument, make a mudpie, sing, write a silly story, or play a sport.
Not sure what to do? What are the activities that you loved most as a kid?
Even if it seems super silly now or you feel like you are not good at the activity, do it anyway.
Give yourself permission to be as bad as you need to be. Doing the activity and playing with no intended outcome besides joy is your only goal, not any other kind of result.
Your SMILE matters more than anything else when you are playing.
All three of these can give you ongoing positive benefits for your health in the long term, and they are great support along your weight-loss journey as well.
I’m so curious: Which one are you going to try?
