I'll cut to the chase.
You've opened this email because you're curious as to what might I say.
I've spoken with many struggling consultants and have heard comments such as:
The first two years were great! My first client [my ex-employer] hired me immediately to help them and referred me to my second client. But the work is complete and neither need me. I'm not sure what to do now.
When I started consulting, I reached out to my contacts and was hired by several of them. That was five years ago and now I have nothing. I've never 'really' looked for clients."
I've been subcontracting for the last 10 years, but now I want to be my own boss. What is the best way to get my own clients?
I remember being in your shoes. There were days when I felt overwhelmed and not sure what to do next. I hungered for framework with a clear and proven plan but I couldn’t find one.
Oh, people wanted to be helpful and I received LOTS of piecemeal advice. I hired people and listened to their feedback and solutions.

All I knew was I wasn't growing and the recommended solutions were not working.
Everything I was doing was disjointed.
I floundered around until fell back on my PwC Consulting training. I realized the people I was reaching out to for support kept talking to me about my services.
I needed to forget about selling and focus on building relationships. Building relationships requires a consultant to continually listen and put the other person first.
By connecting and getting to know people, I was able to engage in meaningful conversations that opened the door to discussions about how I could help them. - Phil
