The history of Halloween was originally a tradition that originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. The Celtic roots of Halloween began in Celtic Ireland about 2,000 years ago. Samhain was the division of the year between the lighter half (summer) and the darker half (winter). At Samhain the division between this world and the otherworld was at its thinnest, allowing spirits to pass through.

Greek Goddess Hecate

The Goddess Gatherings connects women to their hearts and souls and the deeper meaning of being a woman. Come and enjoy conversation, stories, met new friends, sharing and a delicious lunch! This month we celebrate the Goddess Hecate. Hecate is a beautiful and powerful goddess of the Crossroads, the three paths, guardian of the household, protector of everything newly born and the goddess of witchcraft.

Hecate is s lover of solitude and considered a virgin goddess unwilling to sacrifice her independent nature for the sake of marriage. Hecate has been seen as walking at night during the dark phase of the moon and so she is described as shining and luminous. She is a moon goddess and her kingdoms were three fold the earth, the sea and the sky. Having the power to create or withhold storms she also became a protector of shepherds and sailors.
