Celebrating Earth Day!

Would you like to stay young?

What part of the body keeps us young? It is not our brain, lungs, heart, it is our muscles. Why muscles? Muscles carry most of our mitochondria. Mitochondria sustain human life because they generate the energy that powers our cells. By supporting mitochondrial fitness, we are supporting the optimal functioning of pretty much every cell and system in our body. Boosting mitochondria can help us live a long and healthy life. Mitochondria communicates with the telomeres to replicate the cell exactly as it is, or the cell begins to shorten and not replicate exactly which is the aging process. The aging process is complex and has yet to be fully understood by science. But an intriguing area of research focuses on tiny bits of non-replicating DNA called telomeres. Located at the tips of chromosomes, telomeres aid in cell replication and protect the genetic material within our cells. They are also thought to play a critical role in health and longevity. Shorter telomeres are an indicator of aging. Factors that have a positive influence on maintaining telomere length are vegetable consumption, exercise, and the ingestion of vitamins, minerals and fiber.

What does this mean for you and me? It means that the positive choices we make when it comes to what we eat or how much we exercise—among other lifestyle factors—can maintain our telomeres, one of the many mechanisms by which healthy behaviors promote longevity. Staying young means: Higher levels of vegetable and fruit consumption, fiber intake, vitamin and mineral intake, and exercise are the factors associated with longer telomeres and/or greater telomerase enzyme activity.

The Goddess of the month is the Goddess

Pele

Pele is best known for the beautiful island of Hilo, Hawaii. She is the Goddess of passion, sensuality, and wildness. She represents the lower chakras energies the root and the sacral and she is both feared and revered by the Hawaiian people. Pele represents pure feminine and primal mystery as she is both the creator and the destroyer. She is known as the woman who devours the land, and she shows us that fire can purify and make way for the new. She inspires individuals to begin living a more authentic life and allow the stories that do not help serve the highest growth to burn by fire!!!
